GA 5: October 12, 2011 Hand gestures/consensus process were reiterated. Proposal: Go over consensus at the beginning of every meeting. (passed) Proposal: 10 minutes allotted for labor group to bring forth proposals. (passed) Proposal: Set time/date for the next GA meeting (passed) Proposal: Start GA at 6 pm sharp, move into working groups at 6:15, until 6:45, then continue GA until 7:30. Comments: maybe general times and not such strict time allotments Point of process: Two proposals were passed by GA on Oct 11th that: 1) Meeting will begin at the time we reach quorum 2) Facilitator is empowered to craft agenda (including allocating time limits for different items, for that meeting, and structured by breaking out into working groups early on and then coming back to take workgroup proposals Modification: The GA will get into working groups by 30-45 minutes after the start of a meeting, (Passed) Proposed Agenda for this meeting: 1) Hear Labor Proposals 2) Date will be set for next GA meetings 3) 45 minute discussion on Talking Differences 4) Work Groups 5) Proposals (Passed) Labor Group: Proposal: That GA considers participating in local and active labor workers campaign, including the next two Local 5 campaigns: 1. Fri Oct 28th at Turtle bay resort in colition with keep the country country at 4:15pm Hallowen theme and bus leaving town from local 5 offices at 2;30pm. 2. Novenmebr 7th 6-30- 8:30pm at St Agustines Catholic Church in Waikiki in coliliton with faith action for community equity face. Concerns: If we have an encamping going, leaving to support other actions may jepordize: Discussion: We are an unaffiliated group. Discussion: The importance of addressing local issues, and building alliances Modification: (We strongly encourage our supporters to “consider supporting other actions” (Passed) Proposal: Labor group be empowed to invite other unions, and their membors, to Saturday Oct 15th, and future actions. (Passed) Proposal: to send proposals before the UH Professor’s Assembly (Oct 22) who will consider sending rep to GA meeting and officially support our cause Modification: Local 5 Union will do the same (Passed) Proposal: Next GA meeting tomorrow (10/13) at 6:00 pm at Magic Island, and that on FRI 10/14) there will be an ACLU training at 5:30pm (see event page) at UH, and that the GA meeting on FRI (10/14) will take place afterwards on campus Modification: GA meeting on Fri takes place at 6:30pm at the Univeristy of Hawaii’s Second Quad, behind George Hall. Modification: Media group will post events clearly on the home page of the website. (Passed) Proposal: Designate person at every meeting to be the one to approach and explain to new-coming people, the GA meeting process, and catch them up to speed on the meeting (Passed) 7:20 – begin 45 minute discussion of “Difference” - Act of unity to express, acknowledge, and discuss the extreme inequalities stemming from the intersectionality of race, class, gender, etc.. - Discussion: “On the 24 points” Proposal: Do this kind of discussion in a teach-in situation Modification: Allow Greta time to give her proposal (Passed) Proposal: We as a group make every effort to use I statements, and furthermore create a space for communicating about race/class/gender, and about people’s interaction in terms of relations of power. Modification: Ask Laulani to give a non-violence teach in. Modification: Introduce language of “Intellectual Safety” for adoption by the GA Proposal: This subject be tabled for tomorrow, having an “ad hoc” (temporary) group to do wording and modify the previous proposal (Passed) (Break out into Work Groups) – 30 minutes Working Group Proposals: Sustainability Group: Announcement of Official Statement, and Re-watering station to be available starting tomorrow (10/13) Proposal: Everybody bring ingredients/making supplies for Salads, Soups (Vegan), and Sandwiches, and their own utensils (including reusable water bottle), for (Passed) Labor Group: Proposal: That the labor group be empowered to create a document to solicite support from unions and communications, and they be able to post flyers from unions and community organizations on the website’s document page. (Passed). Direct Action: Proposal: Rotating Delegate to be at corner of Ala Moana Blvd and Atkinson Dr starting at 9:30 on Saturday, (10/15). (Passed) Proposal: That Tomorrow 45 minutes of discussion before the GA on the topic of an ongoing occupation. Modification: Working groups go first, than give proposals, then we move on to the Occupation discussion. (Passed) Proposal: Those active in the GA assembly, and those who will be there at FRI ACLU training and Saturday action be “Peacekeepers”, briefing those who are new on the laws, etc., and spacing themselves out throughout the crowd. Also, that there be signs made with the laws posted on them, and that on FRI persons get delegated to the front and the back of the action. Modification: that the signs be made during the “signmaking event” on Sat. (Passed) Discussion: Direct Action working group encourages everyone to get out there and spread the word for Sat! Legal Team: Proposal: That everyone post their questions on the online forum to be asked to the ACLU at the FRI training (Passed) Media: Proposal: Get control of FB and Twitter accounts, and if cannot, start new ones (Passed) Proposal: Media group empowered to create press release page (Passed) Nick Volunteers to be the facilitator for the next GA meeting. Sheila volunteers to facilitate, as Nick cannot. | |

umm the last proposal that was passed was: In the case of E.T alien contact that we commit to being peaceful, respectful and let them speak at the GA. | |
