The 2nd General Assembly (GA) considered proposals from each of the working groups (WG). Please see below for the status of proposals.
*Disclaimer: these notes were written quickly while also facilitating. I apologize for any inaccurac...ies. If working group points of contact want to post any additional information/clarifications, please do so.*
MEDIA/WEBSITE WG: -Create a subgroup for donations/fundraising – APPROVED -Start a skills list to see what individuals can contribute to the group – APPROVED -Each workgroup will have a liaison that will work with the donations subgroup – APPROVED -Social networking (Twitter, Vibe, Etc.) – Media working group is empowered to create group accounts on any social networking site they see fit – APPROVED
DEMONSTRATION/PROTEST/OCCUPATION WG: -WG is considering alternate locations for group meetings and events – WILL BRING PROPOSAL TO NEXT GA -Organizing canvassing and outreach actions – APPROVED, WG WILL POST INFORMATION ON ACTIONS -WG is looking into the permit situation – WILL PROVIDE INFO AT NEXT GA -Call to action for Saturday, October 15 – APPROVED, ACTION WILL BE PLANNED MORE DETAILS TO FOLLOW
NAME CHANGE WG: -The group name (Occupy Honolulu) is under review. The group will continue under the current name, the WG will post a disclaimer on the Facebook page that the name is under review, WG will bring a proposal to the next GA with suggestions regarding a name change. – TO BE RECONSIDERED AT NEXT GA
SUSTAINABILITY WG: -WG is considering needs related to food, water, sanitation, sun protection, etc. If you have any needs, please contact the WG. If you are able to provide food or know farms or others who could donate, please contact the WG.
LEGAL/PEACEKEEPING WG: -WG will contact ACLU and try to identity legal observers to work with the group. Legal observers will interface with the police on behalf of the group. – APPROVED -WG will look into hosting legal observer training to train others in peacekeeping methods. – APPROVED -Group actions (large marches, actions) must be agreed upon through the consensus process of the GA. Individuals may still plan their own actions but should identity them as separate from group actions. – APPROVED -The group will follow non-violent principles, however, we will also respect the right of individuals to conduct their own actions. Members of the group will exercise their right to remain silent if addressed by law enforcement. No member of the group will provide information to law enforcement regarding any other member of the group. If contacted by law enforcement, group members should refer them to the legal observers. – APPROVED
LABOR WG: -WG will contact local unions to solicit support. – APPROVED
APEC WG: -Molly will serve as liaison with other groups organizing around APEC and will share information with this group. – APPROVED -APEC WG will join the DEMONSTRATION/PROTEST WG to discuss future actions.
FLYER WG: -One basic flyer has been drafted. Proposal to focus flyers on October 15 action. – APPROVED -Individuals can still print and post their own information (just don’t speak on behalf of the group). – APPROVED -FLYER WG will join the MEDIA/WEBSITE WG.
PERFORMANCE ARTS WG: -WG will join forces with APEC WG and DEMONSTRATION/PROTEST WG to discuss how performance arts can be integrated into future actions. | |
