Right now, the USA Congress and Senate are considering legislation that illegitimately affects Hawai'i and could fatally damage the free and open Internet.
On Jan 18th 2012, for 24 hours, many websites including Wikipedia and... deoccupyhonolulu.org, blacked out to raise awareness on the issue.
On Jan 19, 35 USA senators are publicly opposing PIPA. Last week there were 5. It takes 41 tostop PIPA: if you feel like it, please call the senators from Hawai'i every day to urge them to vote no! (see how below)
Read below, and you can also start from the Electronic Frontier Foundation's article on how the legislation can be used to hinder free speech.
Simple and informative video and call to action produced by Fight For the Future.
PIPA is to be voted in the USA senate - which illegitimately affects what happe...ns in Hawai'i! - on Jan 24th, so we need immediate action!
PIPA (Protect IP Act) and the parallel congress act SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) are not efficient in protecting intellectual property nor privacy, but they do provide many ways to hinder freedom of speech and innovation!
Contact Hawai'i senators to express your concerns and urge them to vote no!
You can build on this draft:
Like many businesses, advocacy organizations, and citizens, I am concerned by S. 968, the PROTECT IP Act because it provides many ways to undermine free speech and innovation. We hope you'll take our concerns to heart and oppose this legislation by voting "no" on cloture on Jan. 24th.

Two officers in aloha shirts were speaking with a protester at the corner of Thomas Square. One officer asked if the protester would be staying the night at the park, when the protester said he wouldn't the officer responded with "Good, I don't want to see you get arrested."
Be on guard tonight, friends.
